FAQ
Tallow Creams
Which tallow cream should I use? The tallow creams increase in strength and healing properties as the ingredient list grows and the price increases. Our most basic creams are best for general moisture and daily maintenance, while our stronger and more potent creams are ideal for addressing specific or severe skin issues.
Are tallow creams safe for babies and children? Yes, all our tallow creams are considered safe as they are made with 100% natural ingredients. However, we recommend performing a patch test first to check for any unknown allergies.
How do I store my tallow? A cool, dark place is best for storing tallow. If you rarely use your tallow or have purchased multiple jars, storing extras in the fridge can extend their shelf life. Warm areas, such as bathrooms, can cause the tallow to become grainy due to fluctuating temperatures.
Why did my tallow become grainy? If tallow is exposed to temperature changes and softens, it may become grainy as it cools again. To fix this, gently warm it until it liquefies and then immediately place it in the refrigerator until completely cooled.
Honey
Is your honey raw? Yes, our honey is raw. We strive to keep it as close to its natural state as possible, just as it comes out of the hive.
What are the nectar sources for your honey bees? Most of our bees are kept near our home, where they have access to a variety of nectar sources:
-
Spring: Rose family flowers (apples, sour cherries, plums, pears, etc.), dandelions, caragana, willows, and native wildflowers.
-
Summer: Our large garden of cut flowers and vegetables, alfalfa, goldenrods, native wildflowers, and seasonal crops within the bees' foraging range.
Will my liquid honey crystallize? Yes, all raw honey will crystallize over time. This is a natural process and a sign that your honey is raw and rich in beneficial enzymes.
How can I return my honey to liquid form? We recommend placing your honey jar in a warm water bath until it liquefies. Avoid overheating, as excessive heat can pasteurize the honey and reduce its beneficial properties.
What is creamed honey? Creamed honey is honey that has undergone controlled crystallization. While natural crystallization can create large, uneven crystals, creamed honey is processed to achieve a smooth, creamy texture.
How should I store my honey? Store honey at room temperature in a sealed container to prevent contamination. Cooler temperatures will not ruin honey but may accelerate crystallization or alter its texture.
Soap
What makes your soap different from store-bought soap? Our soap is made with 100% natural ingredients. We use clays and plant infusions for colouring, a combination of plant-based and animal fats for nourishment, and essential oils for fragrance. Whenever possible, we source our ingredients locally. Unlike commercial soaps, which often contain detergents and artificial fragrances, our handmade soaps are designed to be gentle and moisturizing for the skin.
